Arkulary, is serving clients in the Duluth-Superior metro area, businesses and organizations of up to 100 people with personnel training and development solutions. The services are designed for organizations without human resource departments. 360 Solutions provides materials and confidential on-line assessments for hiring and team building, and workshops for in-house training, leadership and career development seminars. Adeline, Inc. Adeline Wright has moved her two-year old salon business to a larger space in the Building For Women, 32 E. 1st St., in Duluth. The expanded salon will include a boutique and art gallery. Barr Engineering Co. Kim (Reuter) Smith joined the Duluth office as a civil engineer. She will focus on structural design for industrial and federal clients. Before joining Barr, Smith served as project manager with a general contractor in Superior. She managed construction of commercial and industrial building projects. Her experience also includes head of operations for a crane and hoisting contractor in Eagan, MN. Smith received her degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1996. Barr Engineering specializes in engineering, environmental, and information technology services, with offices in Duluth, Minneapolis and Hibbing as well as Ann Arbor, MI and Jefferson City, MO. Canadian National Railway/ University of Wisconsin -Superior The company announces the following scholarships for students majoring in Transportation and Logistics Management at UW-Superior: • Nishani Abeywardene, Colombo, Sri Lanka; $2,000 CN Senior Scholarship. • Sherry Berhow of Superior, $1,000 Senior Research Fellowship. • Esantha Seneviratne, Superior, $1,000 Junior Research Fellowship. The presentations were made April 23 at UW-Superior's Department of Business and Economics annual student awards banquet. The awards were made through the CN Transportation and Logistics Management Fund. CN established the fund to encourage the academic and professional development of students majoring in Transportation and Logistics Management. Charter Media Bruce Carlton was promoted to local sales manager at the company’s office in St. Cloud, MN, and will oversee its operation, production, promotion and sales. He has worked as an account executive at the Duluth office since 2002. Previously, Carlton owned his own advertising agency in Duluth and served on many boards including the Duluth Chamber of Commerce; Two Harbors Chamber of Commerce; as president of Summit School Board, president of the Lake Superior Advertising Federation; and governor of the 8th District of the American Advertising Federation. The College of St. Scholastica The college announced the following appointments: Denise Wise, MD, PT, PhD, chair of the Department of Physical Therapy, has been elected president of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). The Minnesota Chapter has more than 1,500 physical therapists and physical therapist assistants statewide. Also an assistant professor of physical therapy, she serves as Minnesota’s Chief Delegate to the APTA House of Delegates, the governing body for the 60,000 member group. Sr. Timothy Kirby, O.S.B., assistant director of alumni programs, received a Women as Agents of Change award from the Minnesota branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The award was one of four Agents of Change recognitions presented at the joint Minnesota/Wisconsin AAUW convention held May 1 in Bloomington. The honor recognizes Sister Timothy’s volunteer efforts. AAUW promotes equity, lifelong learning and positive social change for all women and girls. AAUW-Minnesota has 40 branches statewide. In 2003 Sister Timothy received an Excellence in Service to the Community Award from the college. In 2002 she was named Volunteer of the Year at the Federal Prison Camp in Duluth. She is an alumna of the college’s class of 1939. In 1994 the St. Scholastica Alumni Association established the Sister Timothy Kirby Benedictine Spirit Award honoring alumni who have shown professional achievement and who exemplify the Benedictine values. Como Oil & Propane Cathy Ritchie-Kubiski was hired as a sales representative for the Duluth sales team. Responsible for oil and propane sales for residential accounts, Ritchie-Kubiski has 10 years of experience in sales, most recently at Procter & Gamble. She also has worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative. The Duluth native holds a degree in sales from The College of St. Scholastica. Gerlach Beaumier Yvonne Michaud Novak joined the Duluth law firm as an associate attorney. Novak will assist with the firm’s estate planning, bankruptcy and business law cases. In addition to being a certified financial planner, Novak is licensed to practice in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Originally from Port Wing., Novak received her law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from The College of St. Scholastica. Gerlach Beaumier offers a broad spectrum of legal services, from estate planning and real estate to business and family law. Great Northern Services Daren Weier joined the group’s infrastructure team as a Certified Consultant. He will offer a variety of training courses. He will offer training courses in Microsoft Operating Systems and Servers. In addition to a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, Weier brings nine years of IT industry experience. Weier has served as a technical instructor and a systems administrator for ExecuTrain where he taught Microsoft and Novell technologies, managed network security and infrastructure and supplied sole support for the firm’s 250-node network. As a senior instructor for Benchmark Learning, he taught Microsoft specific technical courses, consulted on active directory and exchange systems design and diagnosed and solved hardware and software problems. JPG Group Roz Whalen, vice president, spoke at a national Touchstone Energy brand leadership conference in Savannah, GA. She presented products designed and produced to launch the national Touchstone Energy “Co-op Connections” loyalty/discount card program. The Virginia-based marketing firm serves clients in Northeastern Minnesota and the country with public relations, marketing, advertising and web services. Lake Superior College Tess Dandrea was hired as a customized training representative. In addition to her most recent experience as director of business retention and resources for the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce, Dandrea has a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Minnesota. She also worked with the Northeast Minnesota Office of Job Training as an employment specialist. Community Memorial Hospital Tom Dickson, has been elected president of the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy. He joined the Cloquet hospital as pharmacy director in 2003. Prior to that, he was pharmacy manager at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake. His past work experience also includes director of pharmacy and material management at St. Luke’s in Duluth. North Shore Mortgage Chana Stocke was promoted to mortgage loan originator at the bank’s Hermantown branch, and will work with consumers to find best solutions for new home purchases, residential construction loans and home refinancing. Stocke has been with the company for 10 years, working as a mortgage loan underwriter, and in the mortgage field for more than 20 years. She previously was employed at St. Louis Bank in Duluth, and at banks in Georgia and her native Florida. Stocke is a member of the Rotary Club and the Arrowhead Builders Association. In addition, Mike Lamminen was hired as a mortgage loan underwriter. Lamminen began his banking career at age 17 with Members Cooperative Credit Union in Cloquet. He recently worked as a mortgage loan underwriter at Republic Mortgage Insurance Company in the Twin Cities. Lamminen holds a degree in business administration with a finance concentration from UMD. North Shore Bank of Commerce is an independent, community banking institution with four offices in the Duluth area. Republic Bank The Duluth bank announced two new hires at its Miller Hill branch: • Tom Mullin as mortgage loan originator. A 1979 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Superior with a B. S. in business management, Mullin has worked as a mortgage loan officer at Great Northern Lending, quality analyst at Uniprise/UnitedHealth Care and as a loan officer at Precision Mortgage. • Tim McShane as commercial banking officer and manager. The 2001 graduate of the UMD Labovitz School of Business and Economics was previously employed as a commercial lender and commercial credit analyst at U.S. Bank. Republic Bank conducts full service banking at its headquarters office and six branch locations. Russell and Herder Advertising Beth Helfont has joined the marketing firm as an assistant account executive in its Duluth office. She coordinates advertising, research and interactive projects for clients. Helfont was accounts receivable manager at CP Internet and for 10 years was manager of administration for New Jersey Blood Services. Russell & Herder also has offices in Minneapolis and Sarasota, FL. SJA Architects Jeff Kalm was hired as a drafter at the Duluth design firm. He has more than six years experience in architecture with Swaback Partners and Dale Gardon Design, both in Scottsdale, AZ, and for Architects IV, Duluth. He has an associate’s degree in architectural drafting from Lake Superior College. St. Luke’s The hospital announced the following new hires: • Carolyn Hausch, RN, BSN, as coordinator of St. Luke’s Regional Breast Center. Hausch earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was director of nursing at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living Facility in Hermantown. Her past experience includes a position at Duke University Medical Center. She also worked with stage III and IV breast cancer patients. • Kevin Thorton, MD, joined the hospital as an emergency department physician. Thorton attended medical school and completed a residency in family practice at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. He is board certified in family practice and emergency medicine. He was an emergency department physician at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland. Sauter Fairchild Insurance Kelly Vana has joined the staff of Sauter Fairchild Insurance as a customer account specialist. She worked in customer service and accounting for Diamond Brands in Cloquet. The Superior agency provides specialized group and individual insurance plans. Stauber Brothers Barbie Lougee was hired to head the embroidery team. Lougee brings 20 years of experience in embroidery, chenille, tackle twill, banners and screenprinting. Stauber Brothers provides top-quality embroidery and a broad range of products, from jackets and jerseys to duffle bags and denim shirts. WesternBank Marc LeNeau has been added to the team of professional mortgage bankers. Marc has experience in customer service and mortgage loan origination. The locally owned, independent bank is celebrating its 100th anniversary and has four area offices. University of Wisconsin -Superior The University announced the following administrative appointments: • Tom Fennessey, as director of physical plant. He has worked in a variety of roles the university’s Facilities Management office, most recently serving as building and grounds superintendent. He has represented UW-Superior on the Lake Superior Area Labor Management Association, the Wisconsin Association of Physical Plant Administrators and served as a member of the Superior city council. • Dennis Sears, building and grounds supervisor. He is responsible for grounds and custodial staff, vehicle fleet, mailroom, stores and surplus property. • Terri Kronzer, assistant professor in educational administration, appointed to a two-year term as director of human resources and Affirmative Action officer, replacing Tuula Harris, who retires in August. • John Garver, as Wessman Arena manager. He is responsible for programming, event management and scheduling. • Joel Peterson, as coordinator of recreation – intramural and outdoor programs. He will develop a comprehensive intramural program and coordinates outdoor adventure trips and the outdoor equipment rental program. |
