DULUTH, MN.— April 15 - 21, 2018 is National Volunteering Week. To commemorate, staff members of Swim Creative are spending time volunteering with several organizations. This is part of a bigger initiative set up by Swim Creative business partners, Patrice Bradley and David Sadowski. Starting in 2018, they initiated a program where staff can spend two working days each year volunteering within the community.
So far this year, employees have been using this time to get involved in the community. Project Manager Max Hutchens spent a day in March volunteering with theCHUM Food Shelf. He said of the experience: “Being able to give back is so rewarding. I really felt like I was helping someone’s life improve.”
“People want to volunteer but, between life and work, feel like they don’t have the time," said Bradley. "Swim employs people who seek meaningful work and who align themselves with companies that give back. It has always been part of Swim’s core values to give back to our community by donating our time to organizations that do good work."
During National Volunteering Week you’ll find Swim staff dedicating their time to various organizations, including The Damiano Center, the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and the American Advertising Federation.
“This opportunity has allowed me to help the DSSO launch a brand-new event, the High Note Speakeasy, a 1920s-themed fundraiser at the Kitchi Gammi Club,” said Jenna Kowaleski, Account Manager at Swim Creative.
National Volunteer Week got its start in 1974 by Points of Light, an organization that mobilizes volunteers around the world. Its purpose is to celebrate the impact and accomplishments made by volunteers. What started as a single organization’s celebration has turned into a global week of giving.
During 2018 National Volunteer Week, Points of Light invites volunteers to share photos and videos of their volunteer projects using #ivolunteer. To build momentum, it also created #ivolunteer signs that can be downloaded at https://bit.ly/2JdNf0u.
