On Friday, July 27, 2018 at 7 p.m.., Prøve Gallery will host the opening reception for Minnesota Nice in their exhibition and performance space, located in historic downtown Duluth at 21 N. Lake Ave. Minnesota Nice is a solo exhibit by local multimedia artist Carla Hamilton.
Using film, photography, and collage, Minnesota Nice seeks to raise awareness of social discrepancies in the realm of human experience. Through the use of visual imagery, and the experiential space of the gallery, the exhibit explores the idea that while being individuals from different backgrounds and heritages, our journeys are more alike than unlike.
Minnesota Nice will create a space where viewers are confronted with questions about cultural commonalities, differences, and the social forces that create and perpetuate human rifts. Hamilton invites the audience to reflect on their own experiences, social location and privileges that each individual exhibits. The exhibition will create an uncomfortable safe space for dialogue, growth, and community building. All are welcome.
The exhibition will be on view at Prøve Gallery from July 27 - September 14, 2018. The opening reception will take place on Friday, July 27th, from 7-10 p.m. Minnesota Nice has been made possible through a career development grant Carla Hamilton received through Arrowhead Regional Arts Council. Additional sponsorship is provided by the members of Prøve Gallery. Operating support is made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, thanks to legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage funds.
