Lake Superior Brewing Company turns 23 and is celebrating with a partythe weekend of December 1 - 2.

Friday, December 1, is “Firkin Friday” with the tappingof the firkin! The beer is an infusion with our Secial Ale, we invite you to describe, evaluate – enjoy! Saturday, December 2nd has all day fun in the taproom within credible eats and painless fundraising (more details below).

Taproom updates include new merchandise, colors on the walls – lighting as well as many new games. (Sunday taproom hours will have all our presents out to play!)

“We are the oldest microbrewery in Minnesota”, said Dale Kleinschmidt, Brewmaster of Lake Superior Brewing Co.  Kleinschmidt added, “We pre-dated the craft beer rise withour beer and are still here, making great beer.”

The weekend events with Firkin Friday (12/1, 5:30pm) in the taproom. The firkin (which, in case you’re wondering, is a unit of liquid volume equal to half a kilderkin... or about 11 gallons) will be tapped at 5:30 pm — and the beer engine will commence pouring pints. The brewery will provide “tasting notes” for guests to record theirthoughts and opinions on the new beer. This may influence future productdevelopment.

Saturday (12/2, 4pm) will find Lake Superior Taproom full of great beer, food and music. Pulled pork cooked in our own High Bridge root beer will be served starting at 4pm and music by Lake City Smokin Section starts at 7pm. The fun will be sweetened with Irish Car Bomb mini-cuppies from How Sweet It Is Cakes at the Duluth Grill. The chocolate stout cupcakes are made with Lake Superior Oatmeal Stout, dipped in Hennessey VS ganache and frosted in Bailey’s buttercream.

Money raised from the sale of the cupcakes will go to Northern Lights Foundation. Northern Lights is a local non-profit helping families raising children with potentially terminal illness.

“Celebrating ourcommunity achievements and helping those in need is a wonderful message for all involved,” said Tom Hanson, owner of Duluth Grill. “Lake Superior Brewing is a goodbusiness neighbor and the involvement with Northern Lights is a nice fit.”
