SAINT PAUL, Minn., February 13, 2018 – Classical MPR’s Bring the Sing will return to Duluth for a community choral event The College of St. Scholastica on March 24. The 2018 gathering will be led by Conductor Bret Amundson, Director of Choral Activities and Director of General Education, and Sarah Ludwig, Assistant Director of Choral Activities at The College of St. Scholastica. All members of the public are invited to join in.
This is the third year Classical MPR has hosted Bring the Sing, an open choral event for voices of all abilities junior high level and above, and made possible by the Legacy Amendment for Arts and Cultural Heritage. Bringing together music lovers and vocalists from the community, the goal of the day is to create neighborhood connections through song. Through Bring the Sing, Minnesota Public Radio also strives to make classical music accessible to communities.
Can’t read music? Don’t consider yourself an experienced singer? No problem. In the weeks leading up to the event, core ensembles – including student singers from area schools and choral ensembles – will rehearse with Amundson and Ludwig. The day of Bring the Sing, those who have already mastered the music will be there to support non-music readers and join them in song.
The event will consist of rehearsal and the recording of several songs. A long break will allow for singers to enjoy refreshments and mingle with their fellow community members. And as if community bonding and song weren’t enough reason to attend, the performance portion will also be recorded and shared online at a later date on classicalmpr.org and will be considered for broadcast on the Choral Stream.
To participate, singers must register at classicalmpr.org/sing, providing a name, contact information and voice part. Advanced registration is encouraged. Participants will also be required to sign and submit a media release form due to audio and video recording taking place during the event.
After registering online, those attending Bring the Sing in Duluth have three options to receive the music. To receive a music packet by mail prior to the event, you must provide a mailing address and be registered online by Wednesday, March 14. Music packets can also be picked up at both Whole Food Coop locations (610 East 4th Street and 4426 Grand Avenue) after signing a media release form and prior registration is confirmed. Additionally, sheet music will be available at Mitchell Auditorium on the day of the event.
