Press Releases GSA will donate Coast Guard Cutter Sundew to DECC
WASHINGTON (Office of U.S. Rep. James Oberstar)- Today, the General Services Administration (GSA) confirmed that it will officially donate the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Sundew to the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center, announced Congressman James L. Oberstar. "We were in danger of losing this vessel that has sailed the Great Lakes since 1944 to another port," said Oberstar. "This action means that Duluth will forever be home to the historic Coast Guard Cutter Sundew." The Sundew, which will be decommissioned on May 27, joins the William A. Irvin and the freighter/tug Lake Superior as an exhibit and attraction on Duluth's waterfront. "The Sundew was built and launched in Duluth in 1944, and she has served our nation with honor and distinction for the past 60 years," said Oberstar. "The vessel's connection to Duluth makes our city the perfect fit as Sundew's permanent home." The transer of title will occur on or after May 27, when the vessel will be decommissioned.
