UnitedHealth Group donates to Hunger Coalition

3/1/2013

INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. (March 1, 2013) – UnitedHealth Group employees celebrated 25 years of service in the International Falls community by joining with local leaders, including Mayor Bob Anderson, to make a $2500 donation to the Falls Hunger Coalition.

The donation helped kick-off the Falls Hunger Coalition March FoodShare Drive, an annual event that raises funds and food that support Koochiching County families in need throughout the year.

“We are grateful to UnitedHealth Group and its employees who have been such wonderful supporters over the years, especially during the March Campaign,” said Nancy Anderson, executive director of Falls Hunger Coalition. “This donation is a great way to kick-off our month-long campaign. It is so important to have such strong corporate partners like UnitedHealth Group, which has made such a positive impact in their 25 years in our community.”

“We are proud to celebrate UnitedHealth Group’s 25 years of service in International Falls,” said Mayor Anderson. “They support our community in terms of jobs, economic development and community service and are a model of corporate citizenship. Today’s donation to the Falls Hunger Coalition is just the latest example of their continued leadership.”

UnitedHealth Group employees in International Falls support many community-based organizations, in addition to the Falls Hunger Coalition. This year, to celebrate 25 years of service in the community, employees will help the local Salvation Army with its annual Thanksgiving and December holiday events and fund-raisers; work with the American Cancer Society on events such as the Relay for Life; volunteer for community work days for trash cleanup/painting at area parks; and volunteer at the Backus Community Center to support youth activities, among other activities.

“UnitedHealth Group is grateful for the opportunity to support the Falls Hunger Coalition to help ensure that families in need throughout Koochiching County have access to fresh, nutritious food,” said Joann Dornhecker, UnitedHealth Group site director. “We look forward to celebrating our 25th anniversary in International Falls by pledging our continued support to the Falls Hunger Coalition and many other community organizations that make International Falls a great place to live.”

UnitedHealth Group has operated a claims-processing center in International Falls since January 1988. The expansion to International Falls represented the first time UnitedHealth Group established operations outside the Minneapolis area, where the company is based.

Through the years, the company has expanded its presence in the area to include claims processing for its UnitedHealthcare health benefits and Optum health services businesses. In 1995, UnitedHealth Group moved the operations from International Mall to its current Valley Pine Circle location to accommodate the company’s growth. The facility, built specifically for UnitedHealth Group, employs more than 200 people, and several new positions are currently available.

People interested in applying may visit http://careers.unitedhealthgroup.com for more information.

“Our operations continue to grow with new positions currently available, and we welcome interested candidates to apply and be a part of our International Falls team,” said Dornhecker.
