LSC receives civic engagement award

7/8/2010

Lake Superior College’s Civic Engagement Action Team was one of 20 recipients of the Minnesota Campus Compact 2010 Civic Engagement Steward Award. They received the award during the Minnesota Campus Compact 2010 Summit and Awards Luncheon in Brooklyn Center on June 17.

The Civic Engagement Steward Award is given to a member of a college’s faculty, administration, staff or for a group (e.g., advisory committee, task force, project team) that has significantly advanced their campus’ distinctive civic mission.

Since fall 2009, Lake Superior College’s Civic Engagement Action Team has been developing a strategic institutional plan to support and increase campus-wide civic engagement. The team’s project supports the college’s mission to create a strong sense of community and to build community connections and partnerships.

Co-chaired by Hanna Erpestad, LSC’s dean of liberal arts and sciences, and Roger Johnson, LSC’s director of Student Life, the 2009-2010 LSC Civic Engagement Action Team represents all major units at the college. Team members include 2009 Student Senate President Robert Scott, faculty members Marie Carter Brooks and Lee Leksell, and Beth Adams, Sherri Johnson and Melissa Leno, all of LSC Student Services.
