DEED takes road show to the Iron Range
Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development

10/8/2009

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) is going on the road to Virginia, MN.

DEED Commissioner Dan McElroy and other agency officials will appear from 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, at Mesabi Range Community & Technical College. The road show, with the theme "Advancing Economic Prosperity: Partnering to Shape Our Future," is a continuation of the visits that the agency made to 10 other Minnesota cities this summer.

"This is an opportunity to talk with our partners on the Iron Range," McElroy said. "Our team will provide updates on what's new in economic development and how Minnesota communities can tap into our programs and services. We want to hear what our partners are thinking, as well."

Commissioner McElroy will begin with an overview of the economy, what happened in this year's legislative session and how federal stimulus dollars are being spent in Minnesota.

Breakout sessions will focus on some of the tools that DEED offers for business and community development and how the agency is preparing for the future in terms of job growth, economic development and workforce innovations.

There will be time for questions and answers, and a resource fair featuring representatives from state and federal agencies is planned.

Local officials, economic and workforce development leaders, educators, business leaders, legislators and the media are encouraged to attend. Registration will begin 30 minutes before the event, which will be held on campus at C-175 Main Auditorium, 1001 Chestnut St. W.

People who plan to attend the session are asked to send an e-mail to Mary Schneider at mary.schneider@state.mn.us. They should include their name and the organization that they represent.
