Bayfield's Pinhurst Inn chosen as a top 10 eco-friendly inn by national inn Web site
Bayfield Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Bureau

4/4/2008

Pinehurst Inn, located in Bayfield, Wisconsin was selected as one of the top ten eco-friendly inns by BedandBreakfast.com, which salutes inns and B&Bs that take sustainable tourism to new levels. Pinehurst Inn offers guests the ideal eco-escape, making Earth Day a daily event.

"We looked for inns and B&Bs that take being 'environmentally friendly' to the next degree," explained Sandy Soule, Editor and Marketing Vice President of BedandBreakfast.com. "Each of the inns mentioned in BedandBreakfast.com's top 10 eco-friendly inns list, including Pinehurst Inn went beyond offering optional towel programs and recycling. We're proud of the efforts made by Pinehurst Inn to help their guests offset their carbon footprint with eco-friendly getaways," finished Soule.

"We are delighted to have been included on BedandBreakfast.com's distinctive list of eco-friendly inns," stated Nancy Sandstrom, co-owner of Pinehurst Inn. "It is gratifying to be recognized for addressing environmental issues in a constructive and informative manner. We feel our comprehensive overall approach to how we conduct business contributed to our inclusion on the list - ranging from use of renewable energy to how we communicate our efforts to our guests."

Pinehurst Inn was recognized for its commitment to earth-friendly practices with the Environmental Stewardship Aware from the Lake Superior Binational Forum. Their practices range from driving a "grease car" that runs on used vegetable oil to the use of primarily locally grown and organic foods for their breakfasts, to a comprehensive '"green purchasing" program for all materials and supplies for the inn. In 2007, Pinehurst was the first inn in Wisconsin to be carbon neutral through purchase of "green tags" that offset CO2 emissions.
