Northland Village Assisted Living in McGregor welcomes RN/administrator

1/7/2008

McGregor, MN – Cortney Buchholz has been hired as RN/Administrator at Northland Village–McGregor’s Assisted Living Community, as of January 1, 2008. She had been serving as Interim Administrator since November 2007.

Buchholz grew up in the small northern Minnesota town of Solway, near Bemidji, and earned her nursing degree from Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet. Her background includes working as a caregiver in an assisted living facility, as an RN Supervisor in a nursing home, and as an acute care unit nurse in a children’s hospital.

“After working in both geriatrics and pediatrics, I found there was no comparison. Working with older adults is my calling,” said Buchholz. “It’s been wonderful getting to know everyone at Northland Village, and I’m looking forward to welcoming new residents and families in the coming months.”

Buchholz has already begun to make some subtle but key enhancements to Northland Village. Changes to admissions policy include accommodating special dietary needs and assisting with incontinence care.

Buchholz recently organized “Holiday at the Village”, a December open house welcoming more than 100 family and community members in for food, friendship, and caroling. Plans for a “Spring Fling” event are already in the works. Also new: visits and shared activities between McGregor DAC adult day care clients and Northland Village residents.

“Cortney’s energy, enthusiasm, fresh ideas, and compassion are a great fit for Northland Village,” said Tom Renier, President of the Northland Foundation. “We are pleased to have her on board.”

The Northland Foundation developed Northland Village Assisted Living, LLC, in accordance with its mission and longstanding commitment to the independence, well-being, and vitality of older adults living in northeastern Minnesota. Northland Village McGregor, which opened in April 2007, is the Foundation’s first assisted living community. Construction of a second facility will begin this spring in Buhl, Minn.

Anyone interested in more information or a resident application form is encouraged to contact Cortney Buchholz at 218-768-3356.
