Washington DC --Congressman James L. Oberstar announced Friday that the Region 7 East Central Regional Development Commission in Mora has been awarded $52,628 by the Economic Development Administration (EDA), a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The grant will be used for support for and implementation of long-term regional economic development efforts.

"There is a need to diversify and create jobs in new industries in Northern Minnesota. This grant has the potential to provide a significant positive economic impact in the area, by enabling Region 7 to continue its good work in assisting local businesses for the long-term," said Oberstar. "This grant is important, because directing funds specifically for long-term planning means Region 7 will be able to plan for the future and anticipate needs in the region."
