The Blandin Foundation has awarded a grant of $175,000 to Community Health Information Collaborative (CHIC) for the planning and implementation of secured access to electronic health records throughout northeast Minnesota and across the health care spectrum.

Community Health Information Collaborative (CHIC) is a nonprofit corporation that initiates projects promoting health information exchange in all health care settings and best practices among its membership. CHIC is working with partners and members that are providing leadership through a steering committee with representation from the Community Health Board of Carlton, Cook, Lake and St. Louis County, SISU Medical Systems, St. Luke's Hospital, SMDC Health Systems, The College of St. Scholastica's Center for Leadership and Innovation in Healthcare, and Iron Range Resources.

The Blandin Foundation is focused on the economic viability of rural Minnesota communities, as part of their mission to help strengthen rural Minnesota and the Grand Rapids area. CHIC will help conduct a market assessment, develop an implementation plan and create a model that demonstrates the value and benefits of the health information exchange capability and related services.
