Press Releases Stora Enso receives Forest Stewardship Council certification with paper product
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Stora Enso (NYSE: SEO) announced Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) certification of its industry-standard coated printing paper, Productolith®. Effective October 1, all Productolith gloss, dull and matte sheet shipments will be FSC-certified (SW-COC-1930). This label provides the company’s end-users with the confidence that purchasing Productolith sheet products directly supports responsible forest management. “This FSC certification of Productolith means that our customers will continue to enjoy the very best print quality, while demonstrating their respect for environmentally friendly solutions and quality printing,” said Anthony McDowell, vice president, branding and market communications for Stora Enso in North America. “This means that our top two coated freesheet grades, including our premium brand Centura®, are now chain-of–custody certified, offering more options to printers and end-users everywhere.” Productolith is an industry standard in North America, trusted for its dependable press and bindery performance. It features high brightness and provides print brilliance with a clean optical whiteness. Productolith contains a minimum of 10% postconsumer recycled fiber from the company’s recycling facility and offers a highly refined printing surface that delivers excellent print smoothness. Productolith is available in three finishes: gloss, dull and matte. Basis weights range from 60 lb. to 105 lb. text, and from 65 lb. to120 lb. cover. The Productolith brand is part of a comprehensive line of Stora Enso coated fine papers produced in North America. FSC Certification FSC certification requires that a paper product be traced all the way back to the forest through a process called chain-of-custody certification. Chain of custody begins with the harvesting of the tree in the forest, and it includes processing, production and distribution through the mill and right up to when the product reaches the end user’s office or home. Stora Enso is a vital link in this FSC-certified product chain (see graphic below). The company holds an FSC chain-of-custody certificate (SW-COC-1720) demonstrating that a system is in place to track FSC-certified fiber from the stump to the mill gate. The Stora Enso Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, paper mill then has its own FSC chain-of-custody certification (SW-COC-1930), signifying that it has a tracking system in place to control and verify certain levels of FSC-certified fiber to meet labeling requirements. This also means that the mill obtains a required level of FSC-certified fiber from FSC- certified sources, while the remaining fiber is either postconsumer material or fiber deemed controlled based on FSC requirements.
