The American College of Cardiology recognized St. Luke’s as a 2012 Platinum Award winner for its treatment of heart attack patients.
The college lists St. Luke’s as one of 164 hospitals to receive the honor.
“It’s a continued dedication toward excellence and improvement,” said Dr. Scott Mikesell, of St. Luke’s Cardiology Associates. “One of the things that the American Heart Association has recognized is that it’s a team effort. There are countless different departments that participate in the care of these patients.”
Care of cardiac patients at St. Luke’s can include both primary care doctors and specialists in the cardiology, emergency, radiology, echocardiography, dietary, cardiac catheterization lab and cardiac rehabilitation departments.
To be recognized as a platinum winner, a hospital must consistently follow the treatment guidelines set by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association for a minimum of eight consecutive quarters, and meet a standard of at least 90 percent on specific performance measures.
