Douglas County certifies National Bank of Commerce as a green business

12/15/2009

The National Bank of Commerce is now certified by Count Me Green, a joint program of the City of Superior and Douglas County.

When you think of banks and green together you usually think of green currency, but the National Bank of Commerce, with four locations in Douglas County is more green than ever. It is the 6th business to complete the Count Me Green certification process. National Bank of Commerce’s Properties Director, George Pluntz, says the bank takes its „green‰ seriously. Like many businesses, when National Bank of Commerce began looking at how it could include more environmentally friendly practices in their business their staff’s first thoughts were saving money on energy consumption. As they went further into the process, they learned that they were able to cut costs in unexpected ways. For example, as they recycled more paper and cardboard, their garbage disposal costs went down.

National Bank of Commerce has two offices in Superior, one office in each of Poplar and Solon Springs, plus a Mortgage Services office in Superior. They also have branches in Hermantown and Duluth, Minnesota.

In addition to helping their community by reducing their environmental impact, National Bank of Commerce strengthens our communities through donations, sponsorships, scholarships and volunteerism. Annually they have provided over $150,000 to our communities.

The Count Me Green program is funded with grants from the Wisconsin DNR and the Duluth Superior Community Foundation. To find out how your business or organization can become Count Me Green certified, call Mary Klun at Douglas County Recycling at 715-395-1293.
