Matthew Lehtinen, Magnetation

10/20/2009

Magnetation, Inc. announced that Matthew Lehtinen has joined the company effective November 1, 2009 as vice president-marketing and business development. He will be responsible for global marketing of Magnetation products and services, as well as leading strategic expansion efforts in the iron and steel, mineral processing, oil and gas, industrial minerals, construction, chemical manufacturing, and water treatment industries.

Lehtinen previously was automation sales manager for Felins USA in Milwaukee. Before that he spent four years with Rockwell Automation in Milwaukee as an account sales engineer. He holds an electrical engineering degree from Purdue University and is presently completing the MBA program at Marquette University in Milwaukee. While at Purdue University, Lehtinen worked as a process control engineer for Mesabi Nugget in Silver Bay. He resides in Wauwatosa, WI with his wife, Nicole and their son, Ethan.

Magnetation has developed and commercially implemented a proprietary mineral processing system that recovers high grade iron ore concentrate (MagCon) from low grade hematite iron resources including tailings basins, lean ore stockpiles and virgin ore bodies. The Magnetation Process™ (pat. pending) uses its proprietary Rev3 Separator™ as its core unit process. The Rev3 Separator has productivity five times higher than that of the earlier generation ferrous wheel with double the metallurgical efficiency. Magnetation started production at an initial rate of 150,000 metric tonnes per year from its first commercial plant in Keewatin, Minnesota in February 2009. On October 5, 2009, Magnetation broke ground on a project to double capacity of its first plant to 300,000 mtpy with start up of the expansion slated for April 2010.

Magnetation’s iron oxide products can be used as sinter plant feed, reduced iron plant feed, iron nugget feed, drilling mud weighting agents, an ingredient for Portland cement manufacturing, concrete weighting agents, ship ballast, paint pigments, ferric chloride manufacturing, and water treatment applications.
