Happily, you can now sample your way through the region, by way of a juicy porketta sandwich, decadent, layered potica coffee cake, rustic pasties and more, without leaving St. Paul — at Iron Ranger (1085 Grand Ave., St. Paul; 651-487-1913; ironrangermn.com), the new bar and restaurant from Hibbing, Minn., native Tom Forti.

Forti’s family has been making baked goods, pastas and cabbage rolls in Hibbing since 1913, with Sunrise Creative Gourmet as the most recent version of the business. In 2016, Forti opened a shop on Grand Avenue and Lexington Parkway, selling Iron Range delicacies, and included a deli counter serving a simple lunch menu. St. Paul Pioneer Press
