Duluth City Council approved a half-percent sales tax in the city that will go towards specific street improvement projects.

The ordinance passed at the city level 8-1.

The extra sales tax is expected to generate 7 million dollars per year, it is less than the 1.4 billion dollars it would take to reconstruct all of Duluth’s roads.

At the meeting there was concern from a community member that the Medical District would eat up a majority of the tax.
