Sen. Al Franken is resigning.

The comedian turned senator made the announcement from the Senate floor Thursday, ending weeks of speculation over whether he could remain in the seat following accusations of sexual misconduct from multiple women and a collapse of support from his Democratic colleagues.

Franken said he would resign “in the coming weeks,” but did not give a specific date. Gov. Mark Dayton will appoint a replacement in the “next couple of days.” St. Paul Pioneer Press
