Northern Wisconsin voter turn-out expected to be very high
Story posted Tuesday at 4:17 p.m.

Clerks around northern Wisconsin are expecting a busy Super Tuesday, some even expect twice the normal turn-out. Danielle Kaeding reports voter turnout could be higher than usual this year.

With the Democratic presidential nominee still up in the air and 74 delegates at stake, many Wisconsin voters will be heading to the polls on Tuesday. Town of Bayfield Clerk Dave Good says they’re expecting a better turn out. “We would normally have a couple hundred voters for this primary election come out, but we think that number might be two times or even a little larger than that. We’ve actually ordered extra ballets to be prepared in case that does happen.” Superior City Clerk Margaret Ciccone says they’re expecting more people to vote. She says they usually see 30% voter turnout during presidential primaries. “We have got people lined up to be called in—in the event that it’s busier than anticipated. We will start doing canvassing absentee ballots at an alternate site, which is different than what we’ve done in the past to help alleviate some of the work at the polls.” The city of Ashland has ordered about 400 extra ballots as well in case of a large voter turnout. They usually order around 2,000 ballots for the primary elections. Bayfield’s Good says that voting will have a big impact in this election. “I’m kind of excited because I feel that you know because the Democratic side anyway is still up for grabs for the candidate that when we vote here next week we’re going to have some ability to influence that.” Both Good and Ciccone encourage people to make their voices heard.
