![]() ![]() ![]() News From 91.3 KUWS Attack of lamprey on swimmers a hoax
Some prank signs have people in northern Wisconsin sticking to life on land. Danielle Kaeding has the story. The Department of Natural Resources is combing through clues that will lead them to the culprit of two prank signs. The signs, with DNR logos, were found at a private boating site on Birch Lake in Oneida County. Woodruff Warden Tom Wrasse says people think that the signs are real. “One person had heard a rumor, came in, and wanted to collect their bounty for the crayfish. One of the signs said the department was paying a bounty for them. So, they went out and collected a bunch of them and came to, I think, our Rhinelander office and wanted to get paid for them. Wrasse says another sign warned of a “red lamprey invasion”, cautioning swimmers that the lamprey like to suck eyeballs. “Well, they had the department logo on it. The one had the color picture of the crayfish and the language saying that they were paying a bounty. The other one had a color picture of a lamprey. There were a couple of pictures with an individual showing the lamprey attached to them…said, I think what the term was, attaches to the optic nerve.” The Woodruff DNR Service Center received a few calls from worried locals. Wrasse says anyone with information on who-dun-it should contact the service center and Tom Wrasse at (715) 358-9203 or the DNR hotline at 1-800-847-9367. Previous KUWS Articles:
