Howling winds and a wintry mix today and tonight; update on the warnings

High winds created freezing spray and threw ice chunks high in the air along the Canal Park shoreline Thursday in this photo taken from high above the waves. Authorities warn people to stay clear of the area to avoid injury. In addition to the ice chunks, the ground is extremely slippery from the frozen spray.

Snow and sleet caused travel problems Wednesday. On Thursday, it will be a combination of very strong winds, snow, sleet, light freezing rain and rain, with a thunderstorm also possible.

Travel will be very difficult and hazardous across much of Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin all day.
