The Bois Forte Band of Chippewa selected Minneapolis-based Kraus-Anderson Construction Co. as construction manager to build the new 45,000-square-foot Bois Forte Government and Community Services Facility in Nett Lake. Located 40 miles south of the Canadian border in both St. Louis and Koochiching Counties, construction will begin this month and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2010. Last month a severe fire completely destroyed the Bois Forte Tribal Government Headquarters, which was home to the Tribe's administration and finance offices, planning, leasing and grant administration, Tribal Employee Rights Ordinance (TERO) and language preservation program. The building also housed the tribe's planning, fuel assistance, information technology (IT) departments, a registrar and Tribal Council chambers. Ironically planned before the fire, groundbreaking ceremonies for the new facility took place on August 11. Approximately 31 people work in the offices and another 185 people are employed in related tribal services. Previous Construction Articles:
