Suspended Duluth attorney Lewis Stockman is facing another investigation based on allegations filed with the Minnesota Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility. Office Director Martin Cole alleges Stockman met with a potential client while his license was suspended and did reveal he could not practice law. Cole also contends Stockman contracted to run telephone book advertising that would be published before his license could be reinstated, and Stockman didn’t attempt to cancel or revise the ads. Therefore, Cole argues, the advertising was misleading. Stockman’s license was suspended in February for a period of at least five months following an investigation into allegations that he mishandled clients’ funds. In July, he faced additional allegations contending he did not notify clients or opposing counsel of his license suspension. In a news release, Cole said Stockman’s alleged conduct during his suspension violated rules of the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility and the Minnesota Supreme Court’s February suspension order.
