Kaeding launches news website

7/30/2010

A local news website for northwestern Wisconsin is scheduled to launch Aug. 1. Former Wisconsin Public Radio reporter Danielle Kaeding will run the Gitche Gumee Gamut, a website covering news on the South Shore.

The mission of the website is to bring news together from surrounding media as aggregator, providing more convenient access to reports for online news consumers. Kaeding said the Gitche Gumee Gamut is dedicated to fair, accurate and quality reporting through enterprise journalism. She aims to provide in-depth, investigative reports on issues affecting the region with daily updates.

“Investigative and enterprise reports will be shared with interested news organizations whether it be online, print, radio or television news,” she said in a news release. Gitche Gumee Gamut will provide news in a variety of forms including written, audio and video.

Kaeding returns to northwestern Wisconsin after reporting for the La Crosse bureau of Wisconsin Public Radio since February 2009. Prior to La Crosse, she reported for 91.3 KUWS in Superior. From 2005 to 2009, she worked with Wisconsin Public Radio reporter Mike Simonson. While with KUWS, Kaeding anchored the station's morning news and contributed stories on the environment, shipping and issues affecting the Twin Ports and Chequamegon Bay region.

Kaeding has received awards from the Wisconsin Broadcaster’s Association and three Wisconsin Associated Press Awards in the last three years in the Division One category for investigative reports on methamphetamine abuse and sudden infant death syndrome, as well as best audio for coverage of “Oktoberfest.”
