Family Business Seminar Oct. 5 in Superior

10/3/2006

A breakfast seminar for key managers of family-owned businesses will be held Thursday, October 5 from 7:30 -10:30 am at the UW-Superior Rothwell Student Center. Titled, “Success Factors for Today’s Family-Run Business: What All Family Members Need to Know,” the event will help participants identify their unique challenges, learn how to combine family dynamics and best business practices, and determine which success factors of multi-generational companies they should adopt.

The seminar will be presented by Ann Kinkade, director of the UW-Madison Family Business Center. It is co-sponsored by the UW-Superior Small Business Development Center, and is designed especially for family business owners, successors, inactive shareholders and key non-family management.

“Today more that 80% of US businesses are family owned, and account for 78% of all job creation,” says Kinkade, “Yet the family-owned business faces a unique combination of challenges, including succession planning, tax and financial issues, sibling rivalry, value clashes and personal misunderstandings.”

Kinkade teaches “Issues in Family Business Ownership,” a course in the UW-Madison School of Business. She also consults to family businesses and presents to groups on a wide variety of topics related to succession planning in family businesses.

The seminar is $25 per person, which includes breakfast, materials and parking. For information and registration call 715-394-8351 or 800-410-8351.
