Fairview Range to implement electronic health record system

3/14/2013

On March 16th, 2013, Fairview Range will implement a new system-wide elec- tronic health record system. The electronic health record, called Epic, allows rapid access to health information, which can help the care team coordinate and improve the quality of patient care. It is a secure system that is monitored to ensure appropriate use and patient privacy.

“Electronic health records are a best practice feature for health care institutions, and the new sys- tem is part of Fairview Range’s effort to improve patient quality and safety,” said Dr. James Hartert, Fairview Range Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer.

Having information readily available to all providers who use Fairview’s electronic health record system allows for: 1) a full view of your health history for care provided at Fairview clinics and hospitals; 2) faster access to lab and other test results; 3) new safeguards on how we give medica- tions and many other patient safety features; and 4) health education tools right at our fingertips to help you learn more about your particular health issues.

Patients may experience longer wait times at first, but no other impact on patients is anticipated. Fairview Range will still be delivering quality patient care during this transition. If you have ques- tions, please talk with any of your health care team members.
