Allegiant (NASDAQ: ALGT) has been awarded the US Annie for adding the most new markets to its network in 2012 by the aviation news outlet anna.aero.
"We thank anna.aero for recognizing the growth we achieved in 2012," Jude Bricker, Allegiant Travel senior vice president of planning, said in a news release. "We have a great team of analysts who have an eye for profitable network growth, and we are always pleased to extend access to Allegiant's convenient, low-cost vacation options to even more communities."
"Our team of data elves have poured over the figures, and we think we have again devised a more lucid way of rewarding airlines that have achieved notable route and traffic related success in the US during the last year," said Marc Watkins, anna.aero Editor. "On that basis, we take our hat off to the brave commercial efforts of the network development team at Allegiant Air, which continues to expand its services in troubling economic times while other US airlines retrench their operations."
Allegiant entered 11 new markets between December 2011 and December 2012. In 2012, Allegiant also resumed service in three markets and opened a base of operations in three additional markets: Honolulu, Hawaii, Oakland, Calif. and Punta Gorda, Fla. The company was runner-up for a second US Annie award - most new routes. Allegiant added 41 new routes to its network in 2012. Previous Around the Region Articles:
