Pop-up gallery and shop opens in Washburn

Bemused Design & Photography has opened a pop-up shop open during select days in December. It will feature Illustrator Jamey Penney-Ritter’s entire collection of vintage-inspired travel posters that showcase towns and landmarks around the South Shore and beyond.

“I’ve never had a place to show off my entire collection,” said Penney-Ritter. The shop features more than 50 original designs as posters, cards and magnets. It occupies a storefront at 706 W. Bayfield St. that has sat vacant for several years.

“I knew the building was in the process being turned into a hair salon in early 2019. I thought using it as temporary shop would be a good test to see if I’d want a permanent gallery for my work in the future.”

As implied by the name, the pop-up shop will be in existence for a short time and be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday until Christmas Eve. “Washburn is holding a ‘Shop Late, Shop Local’ event on Wednesday, Dec. 19 from 5-8 p.m. and I’ll have specials and drawings that night. After Christmas, I’ll continue to be at local shops like Coco’s Bakery, art and craft shows and, of course, on the internet.”

Open dates include Dec. 13-15, 19-22  and 24. Hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. www.bemusedposters.com
