Business North - Business News Source

Since 1992, BusinessNorth has been the region's authority in business news. Establishing the only publication in the area devoted solely to regional economic news, publisher Wayne Nelson's goal was to put a face on the forces that shape the lives of people and communities.

The paper covers business news across 17 counties in Northern Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin. Its "beat" is a $10 billion economy that supports 450,000 people.

BusinessNorth has led the region's discovery of business news and has built connections among the businesses and industries in its coverage area. The paper has been praised for its balanced coverage of both large and small businesses and its knack for spotting trends.

BusinessNorth delivers 7,000 copies each month and reaches more than 21,000 readers each month. The company also publishes an Annual Directory of Business and Industry. This must-read publication is a comprehensive look at the region's economy with 30 economic sectors ranked by revenues, workforce or profitability. The new online edition, BusinessNorth.com, is a creative partnership of radio, online and print publications, bringing daily news sources together in one easy-to-use site.

About the Publisher

Wayne Nelson has more than 25 years of experience in business and general reporting, 20 of those within this region. The product of a northern Illinois farm community, Nelson graduated from Illinois State University and moved to northern Minnesota in the mid-1970s to report for the Duluth and Superior daily newspapers.

In 1981, he moved to Minneapolis-St. Paul where he was part of the startup team at CityBusiness, the authoritative business news weekly in the Metro region.

He returned to Duluth in 1986, and worked as business reporter at the Duluth News-Tribune until 1991. In 1992, he launched BusinessNorth and in 2001, brought www.businessnorth.com online.
